Students identified as GATE in grades 2-8 through specialized formal testing, and those students identified informally as "Primary Rapid Learners" in grades K and 1 receive differentiated content and instruction within the core curriculum.
GATE students are grouped into "clusters" of learners with similar abilities and placed with teachers at each grade level qualified to meet their special needs. All GATE teachers follow the CVUSD course of study for given grade levels.
We believe that gifted children learn more rapidly, require more depth and complexity, and have a broad range of interdisciplinary interests. We believe they are capable work beyond the academic content standards and their grade level; therefore, to ensure intellectual growth and continuous progress, they must be provided with advanced, more complex and differentiated study in all appropriate subject areas as an integral part of their school day.
GATE cluster classes are available for grades 2 -12 at all schools throughout the district. The GATE Magnet Program classes for grades 2-6 are comprised of only GATE identified students. This program is currently offered at Rhodes Elementary School to every GATE identified element student in the district. Placement is made from waiting lists as space becomes available.
